Sharing

Is sharing such a bad thing ?

Few weeks ago mark zuckerberg shared wonderful news of his wife being pregnant and how excited they both are. He shared this news as part of public facebook post.He infact added details on difficulties faced till that point - miscarriage etc. I can only imagine how difficult the journey must have been. I was little surprised on revelations he did but glad that he took courage to share it.In his own words :

"In today's open and connected world, discussing these issues doesn't distance us; it brings us together. It creates understanding and tolerance, and it gives us hope."

Somehow i always believed in that stuff but was never able to put it in words.

I remember my teenager/school/college days - so many times i was grumpy for friends not ""sharing"" with me. I could see them sad/angry/crying - they will do everything but share the pain.
Looking back i see i was overzealous in asking to share as unless it is voluntary it means nothing.
Life moves on and i wish to tell my teenage self and those friends that it was nothing - self pity is so overrated. Today as adult we think about so many things - get overwhelmed by issues which can make us or break us.

sharing of health / family / personal problems is not easy especially in asian culture - you have to face lot of judgement / suggestions. It is such a gray area of being discrete / sharing / over-sharing. you cannot share 50 pics of your visit to local temple , you cannot advertise that you are having a surgery. Btw to set record straight :
"Sharing is not equal to facebook post."
but you can share the news with friends, share it in a bar/cafe/home/email/text/phone call.

I get it, everybody is a fighter, fighting to solve each problem on its own. Thats the way life is.
I just wish you are not lonely in this journey.
Sometimes sharing brings up so much empathy that you will be pleasantly surprised.
"Sharing may be overrated - being discrete definitely is"
