Cricket + Drought + Loan = India
It is that time of year when IPL (Indian premier league) is
back.Basically it is the tournament to play T20 cricket matches in
India.
There is a ongoing controversy over IPL matches being hosted in Maharashtra. Several states in India are facing severe drought and Maharashtra is one of them. Court case has been filed to move all IPL matches from Maharashtra - reason being too much use of water to host these matches. I must admit that i am too confused to take side on this issue. it seems logical to stop all water usage activities which can be marked as luxury.Certainly watching/hosting cricket is not a must requirement to live.
On the other side issue seems to be political. By far almost everyone knows that Cricket in India is not just a sport, it is all about passion/ heroes/ superheroes / Sachin :-) . If we can achieve to set any logical example through cricket then it will be great because it propagates to majority of Indians.
I was thinking of things to do in IPL:
Before i start list, let me say this - i am just a naive blogger who is listings wishes. these things are easier said than done.if i was owner of any ground/team i would have resisted these things too..but in the end what matters is ... what is the right thing to do ?
1. Save water:
if there is any way we can save water through irrigation / smart sprinklers / artificial grass then efforts should be taken by respective grounds/team to place that infrastructure.
You can get tax benefit out of that issue.
2. Money donation :
Part of the money earned by ipl matches should be donated to farmers. India is going through a major water/agriculture crisis - it seems necessary to impose some money donations.if water which can be used for farmers is used for ipl matches- then definitely they deserve this special treatment. in a way goverment can create a channel to penalize not just sports ground but other luxury swimming pool owners / water parks to pay extra for that water - and transfer that fund directly to drought areas.
3. Create some event for Army :
I think this issue is very dear to me and i think main motivation to write this blog.
I was thinking if we can create some event which will show respect / appreciation towards our army.
there is a 15 min break between two innings - we can call army veterans / current soldiers who can come there on ground to be just part of national anthem / vande mataram or just 2 min speech.
4. RCB and vijay mallya:
There is a ongoing issue of vijay mallya and loan debt. If goverment steps in and says that we want all revenue which was going to vijay mallya account / firm then it will be awesome.for e.g Mr Mallya owns 25% (fake example) officially in RCB. if per match ground revenue is 4 Crore rupees - then RCB should hand over 1 CR to special goverment account. They can figure out all tax implications.
(probably vijay mallya can learn something from lannister family..they always pay their debt ;) )
Please suggest ..i was thinking many more ideas but as i said all these are wishful thinking..
